Mrs. Bryant are you Rich?…Am I Rich?

As our day came to an end and were getting
ready to go home, one of my student’s asked me; “Mrs. Bryant, are you
RICH?”
I chuckled and handed her, her snack and I said, “No,
why do you ask?”
When I looked into her eyes, something in my spirit nudged
me and I quickly changed my response to, “Wait, NO I AM, I AM the richest
person in this school building, because you are my student!” She must have not
understood what I meant, because she quickly turned to her friend and told her,
“See, I told you, she is rich!” and in an instant they both looked at me
with such admiration, I was truly humbled!
It may sound so teacher cliché, but this is the
truth! In her five year old thinking, she may not have understood my response,
but I know that one day she will grow up and remember those words and realize
that I was not talking about monetary richness, but life richness!
I say this because, as we walked out to our pick-up
area, her words resounded in the inner most part of my soul and triggered so
many reasons on why I AM RICH!
You see, it’ s our natural human instinct to think
about “richness” solely as monetary gains and dollars in our bank account, but
this is not necessarily true!
Think about all the people in the world who are fully
loaded, yet have an emptiness, a void that is destroying them little by
little! With no hope, no love, an empty life! They are poor in spirit, but rich
in money!
So yes I am Rich!
I am Rich with a spirit filled life!
I am Rich with a husband who loves and cares for me!
I am Rich with children I adore and love!
I am Rich with parents who taught me right from
wrong!
I am Rich with sisters who are my best friends!
I am Rich with brothers who are strong, brave, and
courageous!
I am Rich with students I teach, love, and nurture!

I am Rich and Blessed to be called Teacher!
And so are you! ~Tchr888

I love this!!! What a fabulous reminder to see the positive in our lives and notice the many ways we are truly "rich." Thanks for sharing this!

In Matthew 14, we encounter one of the most famous In Matthew 14, we encounter one of the most famous stories about Jesus, the miracle of walking on water. We read of Jesus strolling across a stormy sea to reach his disciples in distress.

Peter, who can hardly believe his eyes, calls out to Jesus: “Lord, if it’s you, tell me to come to you on the water.”

“Come,” Jesus commands.

Peter obeys. He steps out of the boat, takes a few shaky steps, then catches sight of the waves. That’s the moment when his fear overcomes him, and he begins to sink. “Lord, save me!” he cries.

Although Peter did doubt, and although Jesus did chastise him for his lack of faith, Peter was the only one who got out of the boat.

Do you know who didn’t get out of the boat? The rest of the disciples. Not a single one of Peter’s closest friends had the courage to join him.

This story is not simply about faith and doubt; this story is about loneliness of leadership and walking by faith. A picture of those wobbly first steps when we separate ourselves from the pack and walk toward God in trust.

This story captures the isolation of that moment, when we follow God’s leading into the risk and none of our friends go with us. Maybe they don’t go with us because they aren’t called, or they won’t go with us because they’re afraid, but the reason doesn’t matter. Either way, it’s terrifying.

Walking by faith, and leading by faith, is a vulnerable thing to do, so it’s normal to feel unsure of ourselves. That’s what leadership is like.

What this story tells us is: it’s better to be in the waves with Jesus than in the boat without him.

None of this precludes the importance of seeking wisdom. If you sense God calling you to step out in faith, seek solid counsel. Listen to godly feedback. Be receptive to legitimate concerns.

But do all this knowing that even when the call is clear, real and confirmed, not everyone will understand it, not everyone will support you, and not everyone will go with you. This is painful and hard. And as lonely as it can be, this is what it means to be a leader.

If God is calling you out of the boat, whatever that might mean, be like Peter. Step out of the boat.
